ENCINITAS: Second Alarm Blaze Leaves Family and Dogs Homeless

INFORMATION CONFIRMED BY FIRE CHIEF MIKE DAIGLE ON SCENE:

A family of five is left homeless this morning after an early morning fire tore through their house. Firefighters from Encinitas, Carlsbad, and Rancho Santa Fe responded to the second alarm blaze that had engulfed the structure in the 2100 block of Tennis Match Way.

Heavy smoke and flames were visible upon crews’ arrival. Encinitas Assistant Fire Chief Mike Daigle told me that everybody was ok and made it out of the structure unharmed after the fire started this morning around 6:30 am. The family had one pitbull and a poodle that made it out ok.

The homeowner I talked to in the video told me she first smelled smoke and then alerted her parents who called 911. The fire reportedly started near the chimney area and spread to the attic. Sheriff fire investigators are on scene and will be determining the cause of the fire.

Theater Shooting Bullet Hole

SAN MARCOS: Theater Shooting 1/11/13

INFORMATION CONFIRMED WITH SHERIFF LT. MIKE MUNSEY ON SCENE:

One woman is in the hospital tonight with non-life threatening injuries after she was struck by a bullet at the Edwards Movie Theater in San Marcos. It happened shortly before 10 p.m. when San Marcos Sheriff received a call for “shots fired” at the theater. Lt. Mike Mumsey told me that the gunfire came from a possible group scuffle in the parking lot and accidentally penetrated the building’s glass, striking the employee’s wrist.

After the shots rang out, people were seen fleeing from the theater and ASTREA helicopter was called in to search for any suspects in the area. The search turned up negative and the shooters are at large.

The theater employee, who was working at the concession stand near the entrance, was transported to Palomar Hospital and is expected to be ok. No more information has been released since the incident.

FAIRBANKS RANCH: Second Alarm Mansion Fire

A mansion in the 6700 block is destroyed tonight after a two alarm fire called in firefighters from San Diego, Solana Beach, Carlsbad, and Vista. A call came out around 9:10 for a fire alarm ringing and when units arrived on scene, they were confronted with a fully involved garage in the three story mansion. After 20 min of fighting the fire, it was decided that an additional alarm would be required to put out the raging flames.

Bret Davidson, Battalion Chief, from the Rancho Santa Fe Fire Protection District, told me that after the second unit arrived on scene, the fire had spread to different levels of the house. This spread weakened the structural support and a defensive strategy was put into place after the flames had spread.

The house is currently under renovation and nobody was at the house when the blaze started. The house is a total loss. No dollar estimate tonight on how much was lost in the fire. The San Diego Arson and Bomb unit arrived on scene and is helping crews to determine the cause of the fire, which is still under investigation.

ENCINITAS: Stolen Vehicle Manhunt 1/03/13

A simple traffic stop turned into a manhunt Thursday night after Sheriff deputies pulled over a red sedan on North Vulcan in Encinitas around 11 pm. The vehicle, which was later found out to be stolen from Vista, pulled into a parking lot near the train tracks and hit a metal fence. The driver jumped out and started running westbound, jumping the train tracks and running down F Street.

Sheriff’s quickly arrived on scene and set up a permitted as they scoured the area for their suspect. He was identified by the cops making the traffic stop as a white male possibly in his late 20’s with tattoos on his arms and shaved head. He was seen wearing a multicolor t-shirt and blue jeans.

Sheriff’s ASTREA helicopter helped to locate the suspect in the area, but their infrared goggles weren’t able to detect anybody in the area that could be the suspect. The suspect is outstanding as of this morning.
