ENCINITAS: Major Damage Traffic Collision

Three people are in the hospital tonight after a major collision left hub caps, engines, and other car parts scattered throughout the entire road. It happened between two vehicles at the intersection of Leucadia Blvd. and Saxony Road in Encinitas around 10:00pm Wednesday night.
When FD arrived on scene, they found the two cars on different sides of the road and completely torn apart and shredded. The engine of one of the cars was even ejected and sitting on the sidewalk! At one point, the mom of a teenage girl came running down the street to the scene because he daughter was involved in the traffic collision. She is in the video (2:06) with her daughter lying on the ground.
One patient was transported to Scripps La Jolla with major trauma and the other two had moderate trauma and were sent to La Jolla as well. The Sheriff's investigation is ongoing so I couldn't get any specific information about the possible cause of the crash or whether DUI was a factor.
